What are the scoring criteria for the game jam?
According to Decentraland, participants only have 1 objective in the Game Jam. Which is to create the most entertaining experience for the DCL community using various dev tools available. Thus, entries will be judged based on the overall idea, game design, interactivity, creativity, and wow factor of the game scene.
What are the competition rules that I need to take note of?
Firstly, all entries must be a Decentraland scene with a maximum size of 4×4 parcels. Moreover, all Game Jam entries must work in Decentraland without any blocking bugs. To explain further, a blocking bug is a severe type of bug that prevent other bugs from being fixed in the software. Given that, blocking bugs is a big no-no in this competition.
In addition, you do not need to own any LAND to participate. But, make sure you developed most parts of the scenes during the competition period. If you did reuse any prior work as part of the scene, you must inform the Decentraland team upon submitting your Game Jam entries.
Besides that, all scenes need to be interactive with clear instructions on how to play the game. Although all entries will be made open source to the dev community, judges will aim to experience all Decentraland Game Jam scenes as a user. Hence, it is always a good idea for participants to get someone to test-play their games prior to submission.
Lastly, it goes without saying that all entry submissions for the Decentraland Game Jam must be entirely original. In fact, participants must not use any copyrighted materials or trademarks in their entries, unless they own the copyrights. On top of that, you should strive to avoid any offensive or inappropriate content in your entries as well.
Any tips on how to nail the Game Jam?
As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work, the best submissions are often a result of a team effort. Decentraland has provided a Google Sheet compilation to make it easy for you to find potential team members. You can also refer to the numerous tutorials and guidelines available on the DCL website.
Where can I get the registration form?
According to Decentraland, there’s no need to pre-register for the Game Jam. The team will release an entry form for participants to fill out when it’s near the end of the competition. So, stay tuned and start building!
