What an exciting time to be alive for otakus and NFT gamers alike! The infamous Shibuya109 is landing in The Sandbox soon to build its own metaverse plot.

Yes, the Japanese shopping center is bringing a virtual experience to Shibuya fans. That’s thanks to The Sandbox and the Shibuya commercial ward recently shaking hands.
Interestingly, they’re bringing “next-generation customer experiences that exceed expectations.”
Constructing a “Shibuya109 Land” in The Sandbox
Among other partnership agreements, The Sandbox will welcome the construction of “Shibuya109 Land.”
As a Japanese shopping centre, Shibuya109 is home to fashion, culture, and entertainment.
Sitting in The Sandbox metaverse allows Shibuya to mint a version of itself as an NFT. It can also distribute and sell any other original NFTs it’ll create within The Sandbox. Plus, it can test out minigames for players in and out of Japan.
Also, the Shibuya Crossing will have a complete version at The Sandbox. This spot has become famous among tourists and anime lovers. If otakus visit the metaverse, they can immerse themselves in a virtual anime world.
Virtual Shibuya109 to Offer New Metaverse-Only Experiences
While the physical Shibuya109 is a satisfying entertainment hub, it can’t offer everything. The metaverse version seeks to fill in the gap.
“We were among the first to focus on the metaverse and NFT, and have been preparing for it since April 2021,” said Ayumi Ishikawa, Representative Director of Shibuya109 Entertainment Inc.
“At SHIBUYA109 LAND, we will not only offer new experiences that only the Metaverse can provide, but we will also collaborate with various artists and characters, as we have done in the real world.”
With the Sandbox partnership, Ishikawa hopes to see more people gain interest in NFTs. The director would love to witness more metaverse adaptations. One of her goals is for many people, both in Japan and overseas to be able to play the game.
Shibuya Commercial Ward
Shibuya is a buzzing commercial center in downtown Tokyo, Japan. It also features two of the busiest railway stations in the world. These are the Shinjuku and Shibuya stations.
As a “special ward,” Shibuya is a primary subdivision with city-like autonomy. Home to young fashion enthusiasts, its nightlife is among the most alive.
Anyone visiting Japan would love to take a picture at the iconic Shibuya Crossing. Seeing this spot in The Sandbox metaverse would be so cool for fans of anything Japanese.
The Sandbox Metaverse
The Sandbox is a virtual metaverse where players can build gaming experiences. It welcomes any aspiring creator into its 3D gaming platform. They can also make money out of their Sandbox lands. 95% of the income goes to the NFT creator directly. Plus, friends can meet up in the virtual experiences they create at The Sandbox.
The company thrives on user-generated content (UGC). With a simple process of no-code building, The Sandbox is also a welcome place to newbie creators.
The Sandbox is under Animoca Brands, a renowned venture capital company. It has also partnered with Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, Atari, The Smurfs, and South China Morning Post.
