Sunflower Farmers is officially back, but with a twist. The once viral play-to-earn NFT game is now known as Sunflower Land, hoping to gain back its old players, and more. It is essentially a metaverse game where players can farm, chop, mine, craft and build their own farming empire.

While Polygon is known for its low gas fees and fast transactions, high network congestion due to the game rocketed the Polygon gas fees to nearly $1. Aside from the 16-fold increase in gas fees, the game caused all sorts of congestion on the network as well. The developers quickly realized their mistakes, then took the game offline to fix those errors. It is currently still playable, but the developers will not provide any more support over there.
Now the game is turning over a new leaf. Firstly, the new and updated version closes the loopholes that once plagued the predecessor. The last beta version is limited to 5,000 players, only open to certain Discord users. On 7 April 2022, all Discord members will be invited to join the Open beta farming.
However, as we get closer to the launch, there are still several items in this stage that are not yet completed. The team prefers to release game features in stages. They do not want to have presales or exclusive mints, which often lead to overpromising and disappointed players. As players get new updates, they can then provide their feedback to the developers, pushing the game forward.
Only time will tell if this P2E game can rise the ranks once again. Competition is intense as there are tons of new blockchain games now, with the addition of AAA companies now in the mix.
