It has been 2 weeks since Yuga Labs launched its Otherside metaverse project on April 30th. Now, we can finally get a glimpse of First Trip, the first tech demo of the open-world meta RPG. In the 36-second sneak peek video, a Bored Ape avatar is seen traveling around the fantasy world using WASD controls. Even though the game is not yet available to the public, fans can’t wait to get a firsthand experience of the meta RPG already.

What is the Otherside metaverse?
To begin with, the Otherside metaverse is a part galaxy and part archipelago meta RPG by Yuga Labs, who created the famous BAYC NFT collection. In this open world, there are 200,000 plots of land or island NFTs called Otherdeeds.
On April 30th this year, Yuga sold out 100,000 plots of land in a public sale. Initially, there were rumors that the team would release the rest of the land NFTs through a second-round public sale. But after much consideration, the team decided to only distribute the remaining plots to existing Otherdeeds holders as a reward for being the project’s early supporters.
What’s more, the Otherside metaverse will be interoperable with NFTs other than those in the BAYC ecosystem. Here, you can create your own NFT character and take on the role of a Voyager in the game. Using the resources available on land NFTs, you can create valuable in-game assets to trade with other players. On that matter, the Otherside will be using $APEcoin as its native cryptocurrency for all in-game activities.
Gameplay mechanics in the Otherside?
As of now, Yuga has not given a single clue as to how the gameplay works in the Otherside metaverse. In fact, it is unclear whether players can play the RPG for free. Given that, many spend their time looking for hints by researching the traits and attributes of the Otherdeeds instead.

What are Otherdeeds?
As mentioned, Otherdeeds are land NFTs in the form of an island in the Otherside metaverse. Put it simply, owning an Otherdeed allows you to claim land in the Otherside.
In essence, these land NFTs are built upon 5 types of land sediments. They are Biogenic Swamp, Chemical Goo, Rainbow Atmos, Cosmic Dream, and Infinite Expanse. Some of the plots are home to rare resources and powerful artifacts. And only a few of them (9.76% of the current land supply) contain Kodas, which according to the game’s lore, are rare NFT creatures who first created the Otherside.
What’s more, Otherdeeds are further categorized into 5 tiers of environment, with tier 5 environment being the rarest of them all. You can refer to this detailed diagram by @Mantaroth showing all of the environments from tier 1 to 5 on the Otherside.
But keep in mind that every Otherdeed NFT is a dynamic NFT. This means the land’s traits and attributes might evolve according to the player’s actions and decisions in the game. Thus, it’s still too early for us to speculate what type of land will be in high demand after the game launch.

What’s next for the Otherside metaverse?
Along with the sneak peek, the team has released their upcoming plans for the Otherside. Using fragments of an Obelisk to represent each stage of the project’s roadmap, the journey will start from First Trip, which is the first tech demo of the Otherside metaverse. During the demo, players can take the opportunity to explore, gather, and plan their strategies for the game.
Next, Otherdeed holders will learn how to link their lands. Although there are no datelines in the roadmap, the team will introduce the gameplay in several stages based on resources, artifacts, and Kodas available in the game. Crafting will also come into the picture at a later stage. And when the game is mature enough, the team will introduce SDK toolkits for players to create user-generated content within the Otherside metaverse.
All in all, there is so much in the plan for the highly ambitious meta RPG by Yuga Labs. All we can say is, stay tuned, Voyagers!
