The Sandbox has just announced it will unlock part of its map. This new district is called “The MetaVex District” and LAND Sale will take place on March 3, 2022, at 1 p.m. UTC.

What we know so far about the MetaVex District
The district celebrates J-Pop and the Japanese music and entertainment industries. There will be 7 Premium NFTs distributed throughout the Premium LANDS. The first one of these will be Ayupan — 23rd Monster, the voxel NFT counterpart of Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki.
Comedian Pikotaro also got involved and will have a PPAP rucksack NFT, as well as a Pineapple Pen NFT, within the district. In addition to these NFTs, there are also AmPm DJ Booth NFT; the first-ever voxel NFT from Shinichi Osawa (Mondo Grosso) and Avex passes.
To launch the MetaVex District, the Sandbox is partnering with Avex – a Japan-based IP creation company for artists and creators; Shluv Pals – a Genesis Project that represents self-love and the start of TikToker Michael Le’s journey into Web 3.0; and Deadfellaz – a collection of 10,000 undead NFT on the Ethereum blockchain.
About J-Pop
J-Pop, or Japanese pop, is a musical genre that entered the musical mainstream of Japan in the 1990s. The term refers not only to idol groups but also to other music genres performed by Japanese artists such as jazz, ballads, folk and pop-rock. The genre is widely accessible, upbeat and radio-friendly. It also distinguishes itself from other Asian pop because it includes and embraces traditional Japanese musical tropes.
Japan and the Metaverse
The MetaVex District is an important achievement for Japan and the country’s Web3 plans. It is also significant because it coincides with Tencent Holdings’ launch of services that aim to support Japanese companies entering the metaverse.
In January, the Chinese conglomerate announced its Japanese services. These will include virtual humans, virtual models of real places, as well as online tourism services. Large companies and start-ups in Japan, the largest gaming market in Asia after China, have also ventured into the space.
