The South China Morning Post, a Hong Kong news company, just launched a metaverse experience in The Sandbox. The main attraction there will be a gamified tour of Hong Kong’s iconic Star Ferry Pier.
Essentially, this experience flexes the company’s rich historical archives, including more than 100 years of the city’s history. SCMP now makes an extensive visual library of award-winning photography, visual illustrations, data, infographics, and associated journalism available in the metaverse. Interestingly, players also have the chance to meet with the Star Ferry’s longest-serving employee as he shares how Victoria Harbour has changed over the years.
To commemorate the launch, a group of Hong Kong Bored Ape owners gathered in front of the SCMP logo in The Sandbox.

South China Morning Post x NFTs
The South China Morning Post may be a relatively old company, but it definitely has young blood running through its veins. Besides their partnership with The Sandbox, the company announced their NFT project: ARTIFACT, in July last year. This project will feature collectible NFTs from SCMP’s 118 years of archives.
Furthermore, this initiative will contribute to preserving the rich history of the city. SCMP’s first NFT drop is in 5 days. The presale will start on March 13, 2022, at 9AM GMT+8, and the public sale will be on the following day.
The ARTIFACT Foundation is set to launch later this quarter, guiding the development of the project. Subsequently, there will be events and challenges taking place, mainly to reward the collection holders. Additionally, there will be the ARTIFACT marketplace, enabling easy access to the collection. All in all, the company is in a great position to bridge history with the new generation of readers.
