Have you ever played Habbo Hotel before? Many kids who grew up in the 2000s will remember spending almost every day playing the popular game. After more than two decades, Sulake, the creator of Habbo Hotel is ready for a big comeback. This time, the company will launch Habbo X, an upcoming Web3 hotel with a focus on NFTs and P2E mechanisms.
Meet Habbo X, the first Web3 hotel by Sulake
To begin with, Habbo X will be the 10th Habbo Hotel since Habbo’s launch in 2000. The only difference is that Habbo X will be the first Web3 hotel by Sulake. Thus, players can expect to see NFTs and P2E mechanisms integrated into the hotel. According to the team, players can integrate, mingle, own their rooms, and create their own monetized P2E games in Habbo X.
“Habbo has always been at the forefront of creating virtual communities for social gamers and creators, and we want to spearhead this with the adoption of the new blockchain technologies,” said Valtteri Karu, CEO of Sulake.
What are the NFT characters in Habbo X?
Prior to the announcement, Sulake has launched 2 NFT collections: Habbo Avatars and Habbo Portraits as companion NFTs to residents in Habbo X. As of now, there’s no need for you to hold any of these NFTs to access the game. But owning one of these NFTs will definitely give you an edge over other players in Habbo X (more on that later).
How does play-to-earn work in Habbo X?
Make no mistake. Anybody can still play Habbo X for free and earn NFTs from the game. All you need to do is to create a MetaMask wallet to connect to the game. As for those who hold a Habbo Avatar or Habbo Portrait NFT, they will enjoy higher earning potential while playing Habbo X.
Currently, Habbo is using 2 tokens, which are NFT Credits and NFT Credit Furni. Both tokens have no real monetary value for now. But the team is looking to come up with an ERC-20 token in Habbo X that is tradeable on crypto exchange platforms. As the ERC-20 token does not have a name yet, the team generally refers to it as the “hotel currency”.
Anyway, Sulake has proposed a few ways for players to earn hotel currencies in the game. First off, players get to earn by winning games created by Habbo X’s hotel staff or other players. If your NFT room is one of the most visited rooms in the hotel, you can earn hotel currencies too. What’s more, if you are good at designing, you can also build a blueprint or a design of the room, and sell it to others for some hotel currencies.
Will Habbo X find its spot in Web3?
There’s no clear answer to this. But given the fierce competition among GameFi projects in the Web3 space, Habbo must execute its strategies timely. It will be interesting to see how Habbo can compete with the likes of Decentraland and The Sandbox.
